Defending Clients Against Drunk Driving Charges in Texas
If you have been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) in Texas, it is important to retain an experienced attorney right away. There are steps that must be taken immediately to make sure that you get every opportunity to avoid driver's license suspension and criminal penalties.
I am Sylvia A. Cavazos, a San Antonio DWI lawyer serving clients throughout south-central Texas. As a former prosecutor who has been practicing criminal law in Texas since 1997, I am prepared to ensure that your rights are protected in all proceedings related to your DWI case.
Protecting You From License Suspension and Criminal Penalties
After a DWI arrest, you have 15 days to request an administrative license revocation (ALR) hearing, which is your lawyer's first opportunity to question the evidence against you. If you do not request a hearing, your license will automatically be suspended for 40 days.
If you retain me to represent you, I will immediately request a hearing and begin investigating the facts of your case in order to build your defense against the charges.
If your license is suspended, I will request an occupational license on your behalf so you can continue to drive to work. Regardless of the outcome of your ALR hearing, if the prosecutors continue to press criminal charges against you, I will diligently represent you in all proceedings.
In addition to DWI, I also frequently defend clients against the related charges of driving under the influence (DUI — a term that is used in Texas for drunk driving by a minor), intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter (also known as vehicular manslaughter).
